  • About

Historic Lexington Foundation (HLF) is a not-for-profit organization promoting the preservation of the rich architectural and related historic resources of Rockbridge County, Virginia. Incorporated in 1966, at a time when many of Lexington’s buildings were threatened with demolition by neglect, HLF today supports and interprets the heritage and fabric of Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County.

Our recent and prospective activities include the following:

Protecting the area’s pervasive and important architectural history

Restoring Lexington’s historic cemeteries and illuminating the lives of those who are buried in them

Conserving and encouraging greater appreciation of other historic cemeteries throughout Rockbridge County

Shining a light on the legacy of slavery in Rockbridge

Preserving historic county schools that are threatened by neglect

Celebrating and promoting the area’s historic barns

Informing and inspiring the community through publications, tours, programs and similar activities.
